BALTIMORE, Md. – A New Carrolton man’s stop to fill up his gas tank leads to filling up his pockets after scratching his way to a $100,000 Red 5’s Doubler top prize. The occasional Lottery player said it was an after thought to purchase the ticket when he stopped at the gas station in Hyattsville.
“While I was pumping the gas I thought, ‘why not grab a scratch-off game’,” said the big winner. “So, I filled up, went inside, pointed at a game and asked the cashier to give me that one.”
The chosen ticket was the $10 Red 5’s Doubler game that launched in December 2025. The lucky player scratched the ticket inside the store revealing the win, and scanned the ticket to be sure.
“It said I was a $100,000 winner,” he said. “So, I went to the car to call my wife and tell her.”
“He said, ‘I think I won $100,000’,” smiled the player’s wife when she accompanied him to claim the prize in Baltimore on March 31. “I got excited and told him to go back and scan it again and to send me a picture of the message.” Which he did.
Sure, enough the message was a congratulatory one and the apartment maintenance employee was holding a $100,000-winning ticket.
He rushed home and later he and his wife headed to a local casino with hopes of cashing the ticket there. However, they were informed that the amount was too high for them to cash and that he needed to go to Baltimore to claim his prize.
The big winner shared with Lottery officials that he plans to pay off some bills with his winnings and he might purchase a car for his wife.
The Red 5’s Doubler game remains a hot scratch-off. There are four $100,000 top prizes remaining, as well as four $20,000 prizes, fourteen $10,000 prizes and thousands of prizes from $10 to $1,000 waiting to be found.
The winning ticket was found at the Shell gas station located at 8309 Annapolis Road in Hyattsville. They will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket.
