Chemical dependency on alcohol, drugs, or nicotine without intervention creates an environment of sadness and failure. Addicted individuals find themselves in a seemingly irreversible downward spiral of life. It is to help these unfortunate individuals the Marcey House dedicates their efforts.
The 15-bed co-ed residential treatment facility, situated on the grounds of St. Maryโs Hospital, cares for six females and nine male patients at a time in a program designed to interrupt the sliding trend of dependency.
The program typically takes about 6 months, during which time patients are shown alternatives to chemical dependency. The goal of Marcey House is to graduate residents that are equipped to lead a more happy and productive lifestyle without chemical dependency.
The programโs primary focus is to disrupt the bonds of dependency in individuals who cannot accomplish breaking free of addiction on their own. Individuals enrolled in the program are welcomed into an environment of established supportive and drug-free care. Marcey House works to rehabilitate chemical abusers by stressing a responsibility to self and to the community.
Like all non-profit organizations in this troublesome economy, fund-raising is an ever-present necessity. To that end, Friday, May 23, Marcey House held its Fifteenth Annual Benefit Golf Tournament at Wicomico Shores Municipal Golf Course in St. Mary’s County Maryland.
Eagan, McAllister Associates, Inc. was the tournament’s title sponsor, in association with Constellation Energy Group, Verizon, Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative and Washington Gas. This yearโs special guests were Men’s Head Basketball Coach for the University of Minnesota Gophers, Tubby Smith and, Retired NFL linebacker for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Kevin Hardy.
Featured guests and other dignitaries supporting the event include members from St. Mary’s County Board of County Commissioners, County Administrator and Representatives from the Southern Maryland Legislative Delegation.
