LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — David Scott Jones, 58, of Lexington Park, has been charged by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office (SMCSO) in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred on Oct. 27, 2025, at a residence on Bellevue Court in Lexington Park. Jones faces multiple charges, including first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a crime of violence, and possession of a loaded handgun.
According to police documents, deputies responded to the 21000 block of Bellevue Court at approximately 6:40 p.m. for a report of an assault in progress. While responding, dispatchers advised deputies that shots had been fired and that the suspect remained on scene. Upon arrival, deputies located a deceased male lying in the gravel driveway next to a 2021 Ford Ranger with apparent gunshot wounds to the head and chest. The vehicle was determined to belong to the victim.
According to incident reports, Jones allegedly exited the garage holding a Smith & Wesson 9 mm handgun. Deputies confronted Jones, and he allegedly threw the firearm toward the front door of the house. He was detained without further incident. A search of his person allegedly revealed a sheathed knife concealed in his waistband, black metal nunchaku in his left pocket, and a magazine containing .45-caliber ammunition in his right pocket. Deputies also reported recovering six spent shell casings near the victim’s body and an unloaded Kimber 1911 handgun, registered to the victim, on the driveway in front of the Ford Ranger.
Investigators reviewed footage from a Ring home security camera that allegedly captured the events leading up to the shooting. At approximately 6:34 p.m., the victim arrived in the driveway as a white Hyundai sedan pulled up behind the Ford Ranger. The video reportedly shows Jones and a second individual exiting the sedan. The second individual can allegedly be seen entering the residence through the garage. The victim and Jones appeared to engage in a verbal altercation during which the victim displayed a firearm but then unloaded it and handed it to Jones, according to court documents.
Court records state that the footage shows Jones turning toward the victim and allegedly pointing the 1911 handgun at him. The victim can reportedly be heard stating that the firearm had no rounds, and Jones allegedly replied, “Don’t worry about no rounds.” Police records indicate that the second individual in the Hyundai can allegedly be seen handing the Smith & Wesson to Jones. The video reportedly shows Jones approaching the victim with both weapons drawn and delivering a front kick before firing multiple rounds. The victim fell to the ground, and Jones allegedly fired several additional shots as the victim lay on the ground.
Jones was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center in Leonardtown, where he remains held pending a bail hearing. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 24, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. in St. Mary’s County District Court.
If convicted, Jones faces a maximum sentence of life imprisonment for first-degree murder. The investigation remains ongoing.

Wonder who the second individual is. Must be a horrible person
Whoever that second person should be charged.
I heard it was the spouse. A real winner
How is the other person who handed the accused shooter Jones the gun, not yet charged?
