CALIFORNIA, Md. – According to a Facebook post made by Brandon Russell on September 12, 2023, Carter-Myers Automotive (CMA) has unveiled plans to develop an 8-acre property along 235 North, just before the Route 4 intersection, into a Honda and Kia dealership.
The property, currently owned by CMA Properties, is poised to transform the landscape next door to Feicht Contracting. The proposed development will consist of two one-story buildings, with one boasting over 27,000 square feet of space and the other approximately 20,000 square feet. In addition to the dealership facilities, the project will provide ample parking, featuring 105 spots for customers and 484 storage spots for vehicles on sale.
According to Russell, Carter-Myers Automotive, an established name in Virginia with three existing locations, is set to lead this project. The property had a different automotive connection in the past, having been owned by Aldridge Ford in the early 2000s.
No traffic study has been completed yet as the project is still going through the approval process with the Department of Land Use and Growth Management.
The development aims to complete construction within one year once it commences. However, it has yet to be reviewed by the Planning Commission for concept site plan approval, leaving room for further discussions and potential adjustments to the project’s design and scope.
“Previously, I posted about commercial development just past Route 4, on the neighboring intersection corner. There are three parcels, one of which is already slated for an AutoSpa Car Wash,” Russell stated. “With the other two likely to see retail space in the future, an already failing intersection at Route 4 and 235, combined with the need for expansion of Route 4 heading toward the Thomas Johnson Bridge, which desperately needs replacing, AND new homes and apartments being built in the Myrtle Point neighborhood, this area is quickly becoming a Freddy Krueger traffic nightmare.”

I must say that though business can be good for a local economy, this is leading us down a road where there is tremendous potential for St. Maryโs County to become more like Waldorf and I donโt see very many people willing to move to that city! One of the primary charms of St. Maryโs County is its relaxed, semi-rural to rural feel. There was community that was more tight-knit, people werenโt rushing to get everywhere, there wasnโt the unholy amount of traffic that now appears omnipresent. This is how I remember things, if you disagree, you had a different experience or Iโm remembering things incorrectly. I, personally, would be opposed to this construction. This is especially so since there are more than enough automotive dealers in the area and other dealers arenโt that far away! If anyone wishes to disagree with me based on anything Iโve said, or the idea Iโm portraying, Iโd be more than happy to listen and discuss! In the meantime, I support St. Maryโs County being small, semi to regularly rural, tight-knit, neighborly, and charitable! I oppose unnecessary spending, construction, and urbanization and I firmly believe Iโm far from being the only individual that holds these views.
Too late, California/St Mary’s is already Waldorf junior. I live in Calvert and we no longer have to go to Waldorf just go across the bridge to St Mary’s where everything is…as long as the Naval base is there are St Marys will continue to grow.
Well, remember, Republicans have been running St. Maryโs for the last couple decades – so, there is that.
Agreed! The only thing coming to California is Waldorf!
We could use them here rather than drive to Waldorf or further and usevgss
I agree , everything is getting terrible, people need to think about the community. And realize this leads to crime which is terrible here anymore. Wake up, look around . And yes everyone wants new and improved, but at the cost of our taxes and crime . No .

They should use our money to expand the already overcrowded school districts.
What’s interesting is that people keep complaining about how bad the economy is but businesses can’t open fast enough down here. And try to get a table for dinner.. hour long wait or more. Yes, 235 is the new 301.
You’re right rte 235 is the new 301 and the folks complaining are 25 yrs too late! 235 started expanding when Target and the Lowe’s came in the early 2000s and the road went from 2 to 3 lanes
A new car dealership will be better than looking at old neglected houses along that stretch of road.
Who would want to live along a 6 to 8 (with turning) lane road?? Sold cheap to investment firms who are now cashing out at tremendous profitsโฆ
I agree neglected houses just sitting.
Honda Kia the 2 missing main Dealership/Service.
Honda sales up on Civic, CR-V,HR-V and Pilot. There are a good number of newer type 2nd Generation Ridgeline Pickup Trucks in this area.
I’m a Honda Fanboy as they say.
But a lot of Kia Telluride in this area so Owners don’t want to drive to Waldorf for service.
I sure people in Calvert County would welcome the Honda and Kia Dealerships as well.
Remember in the 1980โs when people around here said โWe donโt want to become Waldorfโ – yeahโฆ.. good times. But, republicans that think any development is good development, this is what you get. Instead of smart growth, we have an abandoned Lexington Park, chain restaurants and car dealerships. Way to go St. Maryโs.
WHY? This road is full of gas stations, restaurants, and dealerships. Keeping is slow and boring.
If your an owner of Honda/Acura vehicle our KIA this is a welcome addition. Also interested buyers of Honda or KIA don’t have to go to Waldorf. This will bring people from Calvert and Prince Frederick to the dealership.
These are the only mainstream Car Dealerships this area is missing.
It will bring a few more jobs to the area.
Yes I’m a Honda/Acura owner longtime.
We actually just purchased 2 new Honda vehicles in family and a 3rd is coming soon. So at least two will probably need service at some point.
Do we really need any more dealerships down here? How about some office buildings or something to offer more jobsโฆ
A lot of kia owners here tired of driving to Waldorf for dealer required work. All the other dealers are here, why exclude kia? Avoiding Waldorf is a plus in my opinion. This won’t ruin st Mary’s county.
with stick shift vehicles? say yes say yes say yes
We donโt need anymore businesses, apartments or newly built homes!!! Traffic is already horrendous! We need a new TJ Bridge and if anything at all something fun for kids to do!
Traffic is horrendous because the state squanders its money in Montgomery county. If you donโt have businesses, the tax revenue has to come from somewhere- that would be individuals (again, look at Montgomery county). What we need is SMART growth, with SMART DENSITY, something that DENSE county commissioners canโt comprehend.
I wholeheartedly agree with your comment concerning specific locations for the communityโs children! Parents need a place for their children to enjoy themselves, especially teenagers who need to do entertaining things for themselves aside from the movies, wandering around various stores, and less-than-wholesome activities. What about adding things for teenagers at various locations like a new bowling alley available to the public and not just the alley on base. I think the main things to help the community are activities that donโt have an entry fee. What are your thoughts?
Remember in the 80โs when the folks around here said โWe donโt want to become Waldorfโ? Yeah, good times. But with republicans that think any development is good development, well- way to go St. Maryโs. Weโre Waldorf now. Lexington Park has been abandoned, we have chain restaurants and car dealerships. Congrats. Yโall wrecked the county.
ahh yes, another car dealership. exactly what i was asking for!
Hell yes. Please and thank you. I drive a new Kia and need this. I hate having to drive outside of town for any needs I have. Old ignorant people canโt handle progress and/or development. Itโs welcome here. Time to clean up Lexington park, more businesses around handle the needs of the population.
will we still be able to buy gasoline in 15 years? will there be anymore gas cars in 15 years? i hear they’re being phased- out. its ok to feel like electric is prohibitively expensive.
At least it’s not another vape shop or liquor store.
Build them in the Park, where there is an abundance of vacant housing and businesses.
Exactly!
