Txt msgs have 4ever changed the way we tlk w/ each other!
IDK if it’s B/C we r lazy when typing a txt msg, or if we r just lazy w/ everything we do!
Regardless of a txt msgs purpose, they’ve mos def made r comm skills a lil less sophisticated.
Txt msgs have allowed us 2 throw out all rules of grammar n the eng language, n morph it n2 this tiny lil realm w/ its own communication rules. Which has me SMH saying, WTF?
Do we need 2 include punctuation n r txts? Is it pertinent 2 place a comma when needed? Does capitalization really matter?
According 2 the history of SMS language, nope, LOL!
SMS txts is a term 4 the abbreviations n slang we use when txtng. It’s been around since txt msgs were first sent, n appears it will stay 4 a while!
Here’s the thing, I’m not sure if i should let this bother me, or if i should just embrace it.
i like 2 think majority of my txt msgs follow proper grammatical formatting n punctuation. Howevs, sometimes, it can b tricky 2 navigate the social msg realm on the fly, especially when using txt-2-spk features.
If sum1 txt me n asks, “how r u doing?” How do i respond?!?
There are a plethora of options n which i can respond:
– Great
– great
– GR8
– I’m doing well
– I’m doing well.
– I’m doing well!
– I’m doing well thx 4 asking How r u
– I’m doing well, thx 4 asking. How r u
– I’m doing well, thanks for asking! How are you?
Does it really matter how i reply? Will my point still get across 2 convey how I’m feeling?

TBH, when i read txt msgs these days, i feel like IDK anything! I’m clueless 2 the txt msg lingo that exists!
AFAIK, ppl txt like this on a daily basis. It’s prt of r society, n IMHO, it’s making us look n sound like 2 BFFs arguing, yelling IH8U 2 each other, while 1 is like, STFU b4 i slap u, n then 1 says “WTF? I was JK, OMG, ILU! Plz 4give me n I’ll c u l8er! BFN!”
i get it. i understand it’s easier 2 type a few letters as opposed 2 a few words 2 convey a msg. But do u know how hard it’s been 4 me 2 type this blog post using txt msg lingo? It seems like it would b a lot ez er 2 type out the actual words!
IRL, that’s what people do! We use actual words 2 say (or type) how we r feeling.
Do we really need 2 tell sum1 we’re ROFL at a jk they sent? R we really ROFL, or did we just lol?
i completely understand that the PIBKAC is at fault, but TBH, there needs 2 b a social rev n the way we txt!
B/C IDK about u, but i dnt wnt 2 b 20 years down the rd, trying 2 decipher a newspaper’s s2ry with its cute acronyms n emojis! I dnt wnt 2 receive a txt msg 4rm my son, telling me, “THX 4 helping him 2day w/ txt msg 4 2mrw!”
i hope he doesn’t get that 4rm me!
