HUNTINGTOWN, Md. — The Calvert Nature Society says to “prepare to be amazed” for another public stargazing event.

The event is called “A Sky Full of Stars” and will take place on April 18 from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Kings Landing Park at 3255 Kings Landing Road, Huntingtown. The event will feature a campfire and a meteor viewing program. Organizers request that anyone who plans to attend register in advance online.

The last stargazing event was on March 28, where stargazers were joined by the Southern Maryland Astronomical Society (SMAS), which brought telescopes and served as guides for the night on a tour of the night skies. According to a Facebook post by the Calvert Nature Society, stargazers saw Jupiter and its moons, the Pleiades star cluster, the surface of the moon, and the International Space Station.

If you can’t make this month’s stargazing event, keep an eye on the Calvert Nature Society’s Facebook page for updates on future activities.

Calvert Nature Society is dedicated to the protection and preservation of Calvert County’s natural heritage and the creation of an environmentally literate and aware community. It provides opportunities for appreciation and understanding of the natural world through outreach initiatives and in support of the mission of the Calvert County Natural Resources Division. The society is a 501(c)(3) organization.

The group hosts nature-themed events every month. April’s calendar includes a migratory bird hike, a lecture series about native seeds, and a snake meet and greet.
