NORTH BEACH, Md. — North Beach ice cream shop The Cold Penguin is joining in on springtime activities with its “adopt a chick” event.
For a limited time, when kids come into the store, they have the opportunity to adopt one of the store’s colorful chicks for just $1. They can give their chick a name and play with it while they enjoy their ice cream treat – and kids are sure to love the bright greens and blues of these little temporary friends.
The chick adoption is also a fun way to get excited about the store’s Easter egg scavenger hunt. Cold Penguin plans to hide one egg a day for people to find. Each egg comes with a prize, including a free kids’ scoop, and the hunt encompasses the whole town rather than being limited to the ice cream shop.
The Cold Penguin is one of the few dedicated ice cream locations in the area that’s open year-round. During the offseason, the store sells hot chocolate and other specialty treats in addition to ice cream to encourage people to stop by during their winter walk on the boardwalk or trips to the library.
Many local businesses are creating their own Easter egg hunts and springtime activities, in addition to the countywide and town events. Egg hunts are a family-friendly way to support local businesses and get outside to enjoy warm(ish) weather.
Some other activities are the Easter Egg Hunt 4 Hunger at Serenity Farms, the Kellam’s Field Easter Egg Hunt this Sunday, and the Egg Hunt at St. Mary’s County Fairgrounds.
