Dowell, MD – The 2016 United Way of Calvert Countyโs Mardi Gras has been declared a success, as the agency reports its six candidates vying for the king and queen crowns collectively raised over $100,000.
This yearโs winners were Misty Gibson, who was crowned queen; and Mark Frisco, who was proclaimed Mardi Gras king. Gibson and Frisco raised the most money during the campaign, which began back in September.
The other two queen candidates were Delaney Burgess and Belinda Denton.ย The two runners-up for king were Jeff Gay and James Hitchcock.
Several fundraisers hosted by the six candidates preceded the main event, held Saturday, March 5 at Annmarie Sculpture Garden and Arts Center. The gala event featured a live band and other entertainment.
Proceeds from the events provide funds for United Way of Calvert’s many umbrella agencies within the community.
The agencies focus on helping the Calvert County community in dealing with challenges in three areas–education, income and health.
