LA PLATA, Md. — A Charles County District Court commissioner issued an arrest warrant Oct. 9, 2025, for William Xavier McRae, 22, of La Plata, after a woman reported he assaulted her during an Oct. 8, 2025, incident at his residence, according to court records.

In a sworn statement, the complainant alleged McRae restrained and choked her, squeezed her until she vomited, shoved her against walls, smothered her, and dislocated her arm twice.  The statement also alleges he took her phone so she could not call for help.

McRae is charged with first- and second-degree assault. The warrant was served Oct. 11, 2025, when he was released on an unsecured personal bond, records show.

A preliminary hearing is set for Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, at 1 p.m. in Charles District Court.

Under Maryland law, first-degree assault carries a maximum penalty of up to 25 years in prison. Second-degree assault carries a maximum of up to 10 years and a fine of up to $5,000 upon conviction.
