LA PLATA, Md. — The Town of La Plata, in partnership with WGTS 91.9, will host a community food drive on Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, from 2 to 7 p.m. at Town Hall, 305 Queen Anne St. The event, called “Fill the Truck,” invites residents to donate non-perishable food items to help support local families in need.

All donations collected will stay within the community, stocking local food pantries that serve La Plata residents facing food insecurity.

Those unable to attend during event hours may drop off items at donation bins, which will be available outside Town Hall beginning at 8 a.m. on the day of the drive.

Most needed items include:

  • Dry goods such as pasta and rice
  • Canned vegetables, soups, tomato sauce, and canned meats
  • Diapers and wipes

Organizers say every contribution helps ensure no one in La Plata has to face empty shelves this season.

Utility Bill Assistance For Shutdown-Affected Residents

As part of its efforts to support residents during the federal government shutdown, the La Plata Town Council has approved temporary utility bill relief. At its Oct. 21, 2025, meeting, the council voted to extend the due date for utility bills covering July 1 to Sept. 30, 2025.

The new payment deadline is Nov. 18, 2025. No late fees or penalties will be applied between Nov. 3 and Nov. 18, but any bills not paid by Nov. 18 will be subject to late fees.
