La Plata High School Graduate Joe Cox To Release Debut Single “Fate”
Joe Cox shares a sneak peek of his debut single “Fate,” recorded in Lancaster, Pa.

LA PLATA, Md. — Southern Maryland native and recent La Plata High School graduate Joe Cox is kicking off winter break with more than just a return home—he’s launching a music career.

The 18-year-old singer-songwriter, now a freshman marketing major at the University of Maryland, is preparing to release his debut single “Fate” in January 2026. Recorded over a weekend in Lancaster, Pennsylvania with a team of seasoned musicians, Cox described the experience as surreal.

“We had a great group in Lancaster working on the song,” Cox said. “The production team was amazing, the videography and photography teams were amazing—it was a full creative weekend. We’re expecting to release it mid-January. Just working on publishing rights now.”

Produced by Right Coast Recording and guided by renowned blues artist Bobby Gentilo, “Fate” is more than just a song—it’s a deeply personal story.

“The song was written about something I went through a few months ago,” Cox shared. “When I feel overwhelmed—happy, sad, or frustrated—I turn to music. I believe music is meant to take someone’s story and share it in a way that others can relate to and maybe even heal through.”

The release of “Fate” will include both the audio track and music video, available across platforms like Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok. A teaser of the song, posted to Joe Cox’s social media, quickly gained traction—racking up nearly 4,000 views in under 48 hours.

As anticipation builds for his official debut, Joe Cox has already given fans a taste of what’s to come.

Cox recently gave fans a first listen with a raw, emotional snippet filmed during his recording weekend at Right Coast Recording in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. The acoustic preview—layered with heartfelt lyrics and understated storytelling—has already resonated with listeners.

From La Plata To The Stage

Cox graduated from La Plata High School in 2025, where his passion for music was nurtured through local performances and music lessons that began in elementary school.

“I started playing guitar in third grade through Island Music Company and ended up working there for about two and a half years,” he said. “That really helped build my instrument knowledge and product understanding. Everyone there was such a big part of my journey.”

Before heading to College Park, Cox built a strong following performing at Southern Maryland favorites, including The Charles, Mully’s Brewery, Huntt’s Tavern, and other well-loved venues.

Balancing Music And Marketing

While studying marketing at the University of Maryland, Cox is strategically learning to build his brand and promote his music.

“Marketing really speaks to me,” he said. “Working in sales the past few years inspired a love for it, and now I’m applying what I’m learning in class to market myself as an artist.”
