MECHANICSVILLE, Md. — A new coffee shop is preparing to open its doors in Mechanicsville, but for owner Jacqueline Russe, La Tazza Coffee Co. is about far more than coffee.

It’s about connection.

“Opening La Tazza Coffee Co. was inspired by a combination of passion, love for coffee, and desire to create something meaningful,” Russe said. “Having a coffee shop was my dream, I wanted to build a space where people could gather, connect, and feel at home, a place where community, culture, and great coffee come together.”

Located at 26945 Three Notch Road, the soon-to-open café aims to become a daily stop for residents, whether for a quick morning latte or a lingering conversation with friends.

From Family Roots To Fresh Brews

Russe’s journey into the coffee business didn’t begin in a café, it began in her childhood kitchen.

“My journey into the coffee business really began at home,” she said. “I have always loved coffee, but my passion for food comes from my mom.”

Growing up alongside her sisters, Russe said she learned more than recipes, she learned the meaning behind them.

“She made everything from scratch, meals and desserts, and that’s where I first learned not just how to cook, but how much love and care can go into creating something for others,” she said. “Those moments shaped me. The kitchen wasn’t just a place to make food, it was where we connected, learned, and built memories.”

That foundation now serves as the heart of La Tazza.

A Place To Gather, Stay Or Go

At La Tazza Coffee Co., customers will find a menu designed to meet a variety of needs, from those seeking a relaxed café experience to those on the go.

Offerings will include cappuccinos, café lattes, flavored lattes, chai tea, matcha, and iced coffee, along with grab-and-go sandwiches, bagels, croissants, and paninis such as Cuban, chicken pesto, and ham and cheese. Cakes, pastries, and cookies will also be available.

Russe said one item she’s especially excited to introduce is a specialty dessert.

“I’m very excited about the pastries, cookies, and our specialty motto, a French dessert,” she said.

The balance between convenience and comfort was intentional.

“I wanted to meet the needs of every customer,” Russe said. “Some people love taking their time, savoring their coffee, and at the same time I understand that life can be busy. Many people need a quick and convenient option without sacrificing quality.”

Building Community In Mechanicsville

For Russe, choosing Mechanicsville was about more than geography, it was about people.

“Choosing Mechanicsville wasn’t just about the location, it was about finding a community where La Tazza could grow and become part of people’s everyday life,” she said.

That vision extends beyond the café walls.

“I aim to support the community by participating in local events, partnering with other small businesses, and creating opportunities for people to come together,” Russe said. “By focusing on genuine hospitality, quality products, and welcoming atmosphere, I hope my business fosters relationships.”

An Experience, Not Just A Coffee Shop

As opening day approaches, expected within the next four to five weeks, Russe said customers can expect something special from the moment they walk in.

“When we officially open doors at La Tazza Coffee Co., customers can expect more than just a coffee shop, they can expect an experience,” she said. “From the moment they walk in, they will be welcomed into a cozy, warm, and familiar atmosphere designed to make everyone feel at home.”

Plans are also underway for a grand opening celebration.

“I hope we can open in about 4-5 weeks, and yes, we are planning a grand opening celebration,” she added.

Looking Ahead

While the focus remains on opening the doors, Russe is already thinking about the future.

“Long term, I hope to grow the business while staying true to its heart and values,” she said. “Whether that means expanding the menu, hosting community events, or even opening additional locations one day, my goal is to continue creating spaces that bring people together.”

As anticipation builds, La Tazza Coffee Co. is shaping up to be more than just a new business, it’s a place rooted in tradition, built on connection, and designed to feel like home.

  2. It’s not in a good location. Nothing seems to last very long in that building.

  3. So excited for this. This is filling such a need in this area! I hope they do so well
