Leonardtown High School, in its annual tradition, was recognized by the Maryland State Department of Education and The Maryland Food Bank at The Lowe House Office Building in Annapolis on Thursday, May 24 for the schoolโs record-breaking food collection conducted this year for the Harvest for the Hungry Kids Helping Kids Campaign.
With the support of community members, Leonardtown High School students raised a whopping 183,636 pounds of food between October 23 and November 10, 2006, surpassing their goal of 100,000 pounds.
โThis really was a community effort,โ said Michael Denny, Leonardtown High School Student Council Association advisor. โThis amazing result would not have happened without tremendous community support, including support from other schools.โ
Now in its 17th year, the Kids Helping Kids Campaign is the largest food drive in Maryland. Students throughout the state collected more than 791,496 pounds of food statewide.
