The Humane Society of Calvert County presented Rock-N-Roll for Rescues featuring The Fabulous Hubcaps at the Holiday Inn in Solomons on Saturday Feb. 27. The event kicked off with Calvertโs own Rockinโ Elvis, Jim Godbold, gyrating on stage as he belted out one Elvis tune after another.
The community came together to partake in an evening of entertainment while supporting a good cause. Abby Bell-Mills, Bank of America Home Loans and the emcee for the event, is in her eighth year sitting on the board of directors for the HSCC and also plays the role of foster mom to rescued animals.
Mills and Gail Prisel worked together to organize this event and attracted 6 Gold Sponsors, including Abby Bell-Mills with Bank of America Home Loans, Dave Spigler with Spiggy and Friends, Interlude Pet Resort and Spa, McGee Fence and Deck, Beth Luskey with OโBrien Realty and Jim Wilson with Chesapeake Services, Inc.
The event included a Silent Auction as well as a 50/50 raffle which totaled $606 at the time of the drawing.ย Spot Thrift Shop, a nonprofitย whose sale proceeds go directly to spaying and neutering animals, participated in the event by selling raffle tickets for a Honda dirt bike. The winning raffle ticket will be drawn on March 17. Spiggy and Friends had a table offering the Spiggy Bobble Head for sale with $5 of each sale donated to the event.
The balance will go to Childrenโs Hospital. Spiggler felt that you have to give back. When asked to help the HSCC, he did not hesitate. He immediately began promoting the event and selling tickets. โYou take care of people and they take care of you,โ he commented. He is no stranger to supporting causes. Spiggy and Friends have raised over $130 million in 26 years for Childrenโs Hospital.
Guests, including Calvert Commissioner Linda Kelley, took to the dance floor as the Fabulous Hubcaps performed such hits as New York, New York; Old Time Rock and Roll; and The Boy from New York City. The evening was wrapped up with their rendition of Lee Greenwoodโs God Bless the U.S.A. Calvert Commissioner Susan Shaw was also in attendance.
The HSCC is a โNO- KILLโ Animal Rescue organization and works with the community to place animals on the Tri-County At-Risk list in homes. This list is generated each week and lists animals that are at risk of being euthanized within the next 48-hour period. Thus far they have successfully worked every animal off the list and placed them in loving homes.
The event planners are already in the process of booking next yearโs event.
