LEXINGTON PARK, Md. – The Southern Maryland Film Festival will present the official premiere of “The Hurtz Brothers,” the fourth feature film from Calvert County resident and Chesapeake Beach Councilman Anthony Greene, on August 16th. The film is featured during “The Human Condition” screening block starting 4:30 pm at the RC Lexington Theater.

Primarily shot in Calvert County, the film features notable locations and businesses throughout the region, including the Bayside History Museum, The Lyle Simmons House, Freedom Hill Horse Rescue, Mark R. Frazier Sunrise Garden, and Artworks at 7th. The production represents Greene’s continued commitment to incorporating Calvert County locales in his filmmaking, a practice he has maintained since his 2009 feature “The Henchman’s War.”

“The film is a slow burn about moving on from grief. It’s also an opportunity to showcase the many great locations and people that I’ve come across during the past decade or so of my time here,” said Greene. “Micheal J. Patterson’s (co-star of The Forge) character is coming home to re-evaluate and reassess his life. Calvert County and the Twin Beach area is a perfect backdrop to tell a story of personal reinvention.”

Greene elaborated on the film’s personal significance, stating, “There were a succession of loved one’s passing that led to the creation of The Hurtz Brothers. I wanted to create something about processing grief and moving on that was relatable and tangible. I was also motivated by my leads, Rick (Kain) and Robert (Leembruggen), to take on another project. We all seem to be very happy with the result.”

Beyond his filmmaking endeavors, Greene has been a strong supporter of the arts through community events such as Art Alley (which featured a new community mural in North Beach, Maryland from artist Katie Brinkley), Southern Maryland Art Convention (SMARTCON), North Beach American Film Festival, and Expressions Unbound: An Autism Acceptance Art Event he produced in partnership with Frisco Studios in Dunkirk.

The Southern Maryland Film Festival was created in 2015 to showcase films and filmmakers from the Southern Maryland region, accepting submissions in all genres and ages with a focus on films created in Southern Maryland or by Southern Maryland filmmakers. The festival defines Southern Maryland as Charles, Calvert, and St. Mary’s Counties.

The premiere is open to the general public and media representatives. For more information about the Southern Maryland Film Festival, visit somdfilmfest.org
