SOLOMONS, Md. – This morning, FOX 5 DC’s Zip Trip team was live from the gazebo on the Solomons Island Boardwalk and Pavilion, celebrating Fourth of July community pride. A lively crowd of a few hundred local residents and visitors gathered to enjoy DJ music, food vendors, dancing, and interactive animations from the local business community.
FOX 5 anchors Jacqueline Matter and Tucker Barnes were on-site engaging with the crowd and broadcasting live segments as part of the station’s continuing “Zip Trip” summer tour. Many in the crowd vied for the chance to appear on camera, waving signs, dancing, and calling out to the anchors during breaks.

Highlights included a DJ interview, live “Crowd Chat,” and spirited “Taste of the Town” segments, showcasing waterfront favorites like Coast 2 Coast, Juice Buzz, No Thyme to Cook, and Big Kahuna Cruises. A “Cocktail Battle” and cheer routine by the Steelers squad added local spirit to the celebration.
By 10:35 a.m., the Solomons Steelers—our hometown team—stepped into the zip-trip spotlight, followed by a warm farewell from the anchors as the cameras cut away, the live broadcast closed, and attendees danced on.
The morning offered a bright showcase of Solomons hospitality, with the FOX 5 team spotlighting small businesses, community pride, and the waterfront’s signature charm to a regional television audience.
