INDIAN HEAD, Md. — Residents are invited to weigh in on the future of transportation in Indian Head during a public open house on Wednesday, Feb. 11, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Town of Indian Head Pavilion.
The meeting is part of the ongoing Town of Indian Head Transportation Corridor Resiliency Study, a long-term planning effort focused on safety, access, and emergency preparedness along MD Route 210 and surrounding roadways serving the town and Naval Support Facility Indian Head.
The study was commissioned by the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland, which is serving as the sponsoring agency after securing a $380,000 grant from the Office of Local Defense Community Cooperation. The study is scheduled to run approximately 18 months, from Oct. 1, 2024, through March 31, 2026.

According to project materials, the study is being conducted in coordination with the Town of Indian Head, Naval Support Facility Indian Head, Charles County government, and the Charles County Military Alliance Council. The Maryland State Highway Administration and the Maryland Department of Commerce Office of Military and Federal Affairs are providing technical input as requested.
At the open house, attendees will be able to review findings from the transportation corridor study to date, learn about draft concepts intended to improve traffic flow and safety, and share feedback on priorities related to congestion, access, and mobility. The study is examining issues affecting drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, public transit users, and commercial traffic, as well as emergency evacuation and response needs on the Indian Head peninsula.
Project materials note that the corridor currently supports thousands of daily military, civilian, and commercial vehicle trips and is expected to see increased demand tied to ongoing and planned modernization efforts at the naval installation. The study is intended to help identify long-term transportation solutions that balance military readiness with community safety and quality of life.
The open house is structured as a drop-in event, and residents may attend at any point during the two-hour window.
Additional information is available through the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland.
