MSP Cruiser Struck In Callaway Crash; Two Transported To Hospital

CALLAWAY, Md. — Three people were hospitalized Thursday evening, July 31, 2025, after a Toyota Camry struck a Maryland State Police cruiser that was responding to an earlier crash on Point Lookout Road.

According to Maryland State Police, the trooper had been assisting with a collision involving a Dodge van and a Toyota Tundra on the southbound shoulder of Point Lookout Road (Route 5) near Route 249. After instructing the van’s driver to relocate to a nearby shopping center parking lot, the trooper attempted to follow when his marked patrol SUV — with emergency lights activated — was struck on the driver’s side by the Camry.

Three passengers from the Camry were taken to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital for treatment. The trooper was not injured.

The driver of the van, a 25-year-old woman, and a 2-year-old child were evaluated at the scene. The adult declined further medical care for both herself and the child. No injuries were reported in the initial crash.

The cause of both collisions remains under investigation.

Traffic delays were reported in the area as officials worked to clear the scene.
