Neighbor Alerts Homeowner To Fire In Owings

OWINGS, Md. – The Office of the State Fire Marshal is investigating a structure fire that took place late Monday afternoon in Owings.

The fire occurred at 3:58 p.m. on February 26, 2024, at a one-story home located on Haleys Way near Chaneyville Road.

A neighbor discovered the fire and promptly alerted the homeowner, who was safely evacuated from the premises. There were no injuries reported. Although a smoke alarm was present in the property, it did not activate.

The Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Department responded with 15 firefighters, and it took them 10 minutes to control the fire.

The fire originated from the interior of the garage wall. The estimated loss to the structure is $200, but no content loss has been reported.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
