New Leadership, New Look: Blue Crabs Tease Stadium Name Change For 2026

WALDORF, Md. — The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs are heading into a new era under General Manager Christian Heimall, whose journey back to Waldorf is as personal as it is professional.

Before leading the Atlantic League team, Heimall was a high school senior making an hour-long drive from Old Mill High School to his first job at Jarboe Title in Waldorf. He remembers taking Route 3 to 301, sometimes stopping at the old Nighthawk driving range to break up the trip.

Nearly two decades later, that familiar route has brought him back to Southern Maryland—this time to help shape the future of the Blue Crabs.

Finding His Way Back

A lifelong baseball fan and self-described military brat, Heimall grew up in Severn while his father served in the U.S. Army, spending more than a decade in Maryland before graduating from Old Mill High School in 2007. He went on to earn degrees from Hofstra University and Manhattan College before building an extensive career in sports management.

Heimall’s professional journey includes key leadership roles across minor league baseball and college athletics. He helped launch the High Point Rockers in North Carolina, serving as assistant general manager during their 2019 expansion season and later as general manager through 2022. Under his leadership, the Rockers reached the playoffs twice, appeared in the Atlantic League Championship Series, and saw multiple players’ contracts purchased by MLB and Mexican League teams.

Jamie Keefe, manager of the Rockers, praised Heimall’s contributions both on and off the field.

“Christian is a dedicated professional with strong business and baseball knowledge,” Keefe said. “We worked together for eight years and won a championship, and his passion for the game and for the fans will be a real asset to the Blue Crabs.”

His off-field work also stood out. Heimall oversaw marketing and operations that earned High Point’s Truist Point Ballpark Atlantic League Ballpark of the Year honors in both 2019 and 2022, and he led community initiatives recognized as Promotion of the Year in 2021.

Rick White, president of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, said Heimall’s return to the league is a major win for Southern Maryland.

“Christian is an excellent choice to lead the Blue Crabs,” White said. “During his time in the league, he has exhibited creativity and passion, while providing exciting and engaging events at the ballpark. He will be a huge asset to the club. He cares deeply about the fan experience, the product on the field, as well as the staff, coaches, and players who make it all happen.”

Most recently, he served as Director of Enrollment Guest Experience at High Point University, where his team set attendance and enrollment records by focusing on hospitality and visitor engagement—values he plans to bring to Waldorf.

A Fan-First Focus

As Heimall prepares for the 2026 season, which begins Tuesday, April 21, his focus is clear: improving the fan experience and strengthening the team’s connection with the community.

“I want to make sure that when people leave the ballpark, they feel like that is a place where they belong,” Heimall said. “Like that is a place where they are welcome—no matter who they are.”

A larger focus on community involvement is also high on the team’s priority list. In the coming weeks, the Blue Crabs will announce a new stadium name in partnership with a sponsor they believe reflects that commitment. The Charles County Board of Commissioners approved the name change at its meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 28.

Among the changes he’s leading:

  • Concessions brought fully in-house, allowing the team to control menus, preparation, and quality.
  • Themed nights, fundraisers, and giveaways designed to create more engaging, inclusive game-day experiences.
  • Enhanced game-day atmosphere that reflects the hospitality and excitement fans expect from minor league baseball.

Heimall emphasizes that every improvement—from food service to family-friendly entertainment—is designed to make Regency Furniture Stadium feel like home for fans across Southern Maryland.

Looking Ahead

Heimall will relocate from North Carolina by late October as preparations continue for Opening Day. Under new ownership led by CEO and Managing Partner Charles Garramone, the organization aims to build on its community-oriented foundation while introducing a fresh, energized experience for fans.

“I care so much about the fan experience,” he said. “Don’t get me wrong, I want us to win baseball games, but at the end of the day, it’s about the experience someone has in the stadium—the hospitality they feel, the excitement on the concourse.”
