LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Kyle Chase, a second-grader at Oakville Elementary School, is making his acting debut through the Doritos Crash the Super Bowl contest, marking a big step in his dreams of becoming a YouTuber and gamer.
Kyle’s father, Lawrence Chase, discovered the contest on TikTok and saw an opportunity to challenge himself and create something viral. “I wanted to do something outside of my normal content,” Lawrence said. “I became a videographer ten years ago to shoot my own music videos, parodying popular songs like ‘Weird Al’ Yankovic, but about fishing. I’ve attracted millions of views, but I haven’t been able to replicate that success with other people’s projects. This contest is a way of proving my talents as a writer, director, editor, and videographer.”

While the video features Kyle as the star actor, Lawrence said it was a family affair. “Kyle’s godfather and cousin, Calvin Chase III, also played the football coach in the video,” Lawrence explained. “I really appreciate his dedication to this role. Even though it’s only 30 seconds long, we had to shoot three different times due to small details in contest rules. Calvin travels back and forth for work from Maryland to South Carolina every other weekend and still made time to help the family.”
The video was recorded at John G. Lancaster Park in Lexington Park, adding a local touch to their submission.

For Lawrence, the experience was about more than just winning the contest. “What we like to accomplish with this, besides winning, would be exposure for Kyle as an actor and for my own talents as a content creator,” he said.
Through the process, Kyle learned valuable lessons, including how to overcome moments of embarrassment. Lawrence encouraged him when he felt self-conscious about performing in front of others. “As a parent, when your child has a dream, you know the harsh reality that it might not come true, but you shouldn’t discourage them,” Lawrence said. “There are safe spaces to explore that dream. Sometimes, you need to let them learn firsthand.”
Lawrence helped Kyle watch his takes and evaluate whether he liked them or wanted to try again. “I would remind him, ‘If you were a YouTuber, there will always be people around,’” he said. “This experience could shape his path going forward in life, one way or another.”
