At 3:10 a.m. Aug. 28, Charles County Sheriff’s officers responded to the 300 block of Goose Creek Drive in La Plata for the report of a disorderly person.
Upon arrival, officers found Tommy Delonte Bell, 25, of La Plata outside yelling and cursing. Officers ordered him several times to quite down and go inside his residence but he refused.
Officers attempted to take Bell into custody but he resisted and a struggle ensued, during which Bell attempted to grab Sgt. D. Bacon’s firearm.
Bell was arrested shortly thereafter and charged with second-degree assault, attempt to disarm law enforcement officer, disorderly conduct, failure to obey lawful order and resisting arrest.
Bell was being held at the Charles County Detention Center pending an appearance before the district court commissioner. Officer D. Behm investigated.
