PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — A late-night traffic stop for a simple turn signal violation spiraled into a narcotics investigation after Calvert County deputies allegedly discovered crack cocaine paraphernalia in a vehicle driven by a Huntingtown man with a revoked license.
According to charging documents, Jamar Arsenio Brown, 35, of Huntingtown, was pulled over shortly after 11 p.m. on May 30 after a deputy observed his gray 2009 Mercury Milan make a turn from Braschers Boulevard onto North Solomons Island Road without signaling.
The deputy conducted the stop near Sherry Lane and quickly identified Brown as the driver. A passenger in the front seat was identified and released without charges. Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration records confirmed Brown’s driving privileges had been revoked. He was immediately placed under arrest.
A K-9 unit responded to the scene and alerted deputies to the possible presence of drugs inside the vehicle. A search revealed a burnt clear glass pipe containing suspected crack cocaine residue lodged between the driver’s seat and the center console.
Authorities say the pipe was consistent with a device used for inhaling crack cocaine, which is a Schedule II controlled substance under Maryland law. Brown was transported to the Calvert County Detention Center and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance not cannabis and possession of drug paraphernalia. He also received traffic citations related to the suspended license.
Court records show Brown was released later that day after posting a $5,000 unsecured personal bond. He is being represented by the Calvert County Office of the Public Defender. A court date has been set for July 30 in Calvert District Court.
