Just after midnight, at approximately 12:05 a.m., on November 18, a local 26 year old man, Amos Samuel Milburn Jr., was shot outside a Lexington Park Best Western hotel.
The bullet entered through his chin and exited through his neck, according to detective Clay Safford of St. Maryโs Bureau of Criminal Investigations, who could not reveal if there had been more than one shot fired. Others on the scene drove the shot man to a nearby Sheets, said Safford, where they knew part-time off-duty officers were at hand.
Milburn underwent surgery at Washington Hospital and was recently released.
No one has yet been charged with the shooting, and police are unable to release many of the details surrounding the incident as the investigation is still in progress. They cannot, for example, say if Milburn knew his attacker or if there were witnesses per se. However, there were others who drove Milburn to assistance at Sheets, and Detective Safford confirmed to The Bay Net that there were โother subjects in the areaโ when the shooting occurred. Safford told The Bay Net detectives are conducting interviews with โnumerous โwitnesses.โโ
The shooting occurred in the side parking lot of the Best Western, and was heard by several locals who were outside the neighboring pub, Donovanโs, as one person on the premises (who heard but did not see the shooting) revealed to The Bay Net.
While the details of what unfolded that night remain guarded, the shooting was not a bar brawl that spilled into the parking lot. Detectives told The Bay Net Milburn and any companions he may have been accompanied by had not been in the neighboring bar, although they were unable to say where the individuals had been prior to the shooting.
Detective Safford could not confirm that police have a โsuspectโ at the moment, in what would seem to be a public shooting, however he said Tuesday that there are now โpersons of interestโ in the investigation.
