From Virginia Roots to a Maryland Renaissance
Prestige Illumination & Ponds is the evolution of The Pond Doctor, a beloved pond company originally founded in Warrenton, Virginia, by the late Mark King. Known for his deep knowledge of water features and his passion for connecting people with nature, Mark built a loyal following throughout Northern Virginia.
Following Mark’s passing in 2018, his son Curtis King stepped in to carry on his father’s legacy. At the request of his mother and with a vision to expand into landscape lighting and environmental design, Curtis rebranded the business as Prestige Illumination & Ponds LLC. The company’s base of operations was shifted from Warrenton to Curtis’s home in Southern Maryland, where the business has since flourished and expanded.
“I wanted to preserve everything my dad stood for—craftsmanship, beauty, and honesty—and bring that spirit to a new chapter,” said Curtis King. “Every feature we install reflects that legacy.”
Honoring Service Through Design: HEAL Foundation Collaboration
In 2015, Mark and Curtis worked together on a fountain installation for The HEAL Foundation, a nonprofit offering equine-assisted therapy to veterans, first responders, and families. That project became a cherished part of HEAL’s healing environment.
Thanks to the generosity of an incredible donor, we are thrilled to announce that Nearly a decade later, Prestige will be returning to restore the original fountain that was damaged this past year due to severe weather, this time it will be in honor of Mark King. With updated materials the new feature honors the emotional impact of the original while standing as a lasting tribute.
