PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, Md. – Under Maryland’s laws for electing judges, outsider judges are few and far between. The 2020 election, already unique for the backdrop of a worldwide pandemic and outrageous tactics by the Trump administration to subvert democracy, served as an aberration when several Black candidates for judge, primarily women, were successfully elected to the bench.

In Prince George’s County, Gladys Weatherspoon and April Ademiluyi were elected while running against a slate of judges seeking their retention on the bench. In her first two years in office, she faced accusations of impartiality and engaging in misconduct while on the bench.

Admeiluyi was suspended from the bench in 2023 and barred from the courthouse while mediators requested that she finish mandatory training. She initiated a federal lawsuit against her coworkers and alleged a conspiracy to sabotage her judicial career, and filed an additional lawsuit last week against the commission that sought her removal.

Following a request by the Maryland Commission on Judicial Disabilities, Judge Ademiluyi was removed from her position by the Maryland Supreme Court on May 7. This is the first time this has ever happened in Prince George’s. The Commission originally pursued a six-month suspension and a censure, but the state Supreme Court chose to increase the penalties due to the nature of her conduct.

  1. What can I say, this year in MD we’re dealing with alot of things we didn’t expect to have to deal with.

  2. “…outrageous tactics by the Trump administration to subvert democracy.”??? What does Trump have to do with this woman being kicked off the bench for her abhorrent behavior? In addition, to hades with democracy. We are a representative Constitutional Republic, not a democracy. In a democracy, the majority rules, aka mob rule, without consideration for the rights of the people. In a Constitutional Republic, the majority rules while protecting the rights of people.

  4. Dems should take Ttump to court for the judges action. That might give a Biden a chance of winning without totally rigging the vote.

  5. Real facts on why the removal took place please? Other than blaming Fauci’s Plague, ex-President Trump, race, sex & etc., it’s probably somehow involved with the people who did the electing.
