LEONARDTOWN, Md. — The St. Mary’s County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing later this month to review plans for a new townhouse community proposed in Piney Point.
According to a notice posted by the county, Windward Land Development, LLC has submitted a concept site plan (CSP24-0283) for the Lighthouse Commons Townhouse Development, a 60-unit residential project planned at the end of Lighthouse Commons Drive in Piney Point.
The hearing is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in the Commissioners Meeting Room of the St. Mary’s County Chesapeake Building, located at 41770 Baldridge Street in Leonardtown. The session will be broadcast live on Channel 95 and the county’s YouTube channel.
Residents may submit written comments instead of appearing in person. Emails must be sent to megan.higgs-carter@stmaryscountymd.gov by 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24, or mailed to the Planning Commission, P.O. Box 653, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
An electronic copy of the case file may be requested through the same email address or by calling 301-475-4200 ext. 1506.
If approved, Lighthouse Commons would bring 60 new townhomes to Piney Point, adding to ongoing residential growth along St. Mary’s County’s western waterfront communities.

Unnecessary in such a soft and prone to flooding area. We shouldn’t be putting anymore large developments in anywhere below Hollywood. This is all swamp land or about to be swamp land.
Residents in this area cant do anything on their property due to critical areas — but if you got the $$$$ you can build anything … I thought that there were no more edu’s available … where did these 60 come from????
