St. Leonard, MD – A day that had been predicted to be overcast arrived with abundant sunshine. Still, the elements—bitter cold and gusty winds—presented a challenge Saturday, March 28 to the dozens of participants in the 2015 Keep Your Colon Rollin’ 5 Kilometer (K) Run/Walk.

The tenth anniversary edition of the race was held at Jefferson Patterson Park in St. Leonard and sponsored by the Calvert County Health Department as part of Colon Cancer Awareness Month.

The money raised from this year’s 5K will benefit the Calvert Memorial Hospital Foundation.

According to unofficial results that were available immediately following the trek, the top racer was Christopher Lee, 42, who finished with a time of 19 minutes and 47 seconds. Finishing second was Joe Dologiallo, 32, who logged a time of 20 minutes and 38 seconds. Third place belonged to Ryan Isleib, 29, whose time was 21 minutes and one second.

The top female finisher was Kelly Kitzmiller, 22, who logged a time of 23 minutes and 48 seconds.

Awards were given out following the race to the top three male and female finishers in seven age categories.

In addition to handing out several door prizes donated by area businesses, race officials presented an award for the best “blue” theme and a prize to the first person to register for the race.

“You all are my heroes,” said colon cancer survivor Chip Allen to the race participants. The retired sheriff’s office deputy told the post-race crowd that he disagrees when others state that someone “lost their battle with cancer.” He said because the cancer also dies, “it’s a tie. We will win. Hopefully, we can get this beat!”
