DUNKIRK, Md. — A Washington, D.C., man was arrested on drug charges following a late-night traffic stop in Dunkirk that led to the discovery of suspected narcotics and paraphernalia inside a vehicle, according to court documents.
Bobby Lee Robertson, 62, of Washington, D.C., has been charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
A deputy was patrolling the area of Southern Maryland Boulevard and Lyons Creek Road around 1:45 a.m. on March 29, 2026, when a black Ford Explorer with a shattered rear passenger window was observed traveling southbound. The condition of the vehicle raised suspicion, as damaged windows are often associated with stolen or tampered vehicles.
The deputy followed the vehicle into Dunkirk and observed additional traffic violations, including a malfunctioning brake light and failure to signal, prompting a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Robertson.
During the stop, deputies noted unusual behavior from the vehicle’s occupants, including nervousness and inconsistent explanations about their travel plans. Investigators also observed signs that raised suspicion of possible drug activity, including a passenger holding a freshly lit cigarette and occupants delaying identification.
Due to the circumstances, a K-9 unit was requested to the scene. The police dog alerted to the presence of narcotics, giving deputies probable cause to search the vehicle.
During the search, deputies located a cigarette inside a box that appeared to be dipped in phencyclidine (PCP), along with glass smoking devices containing residue commonly associated with crack cocaine use. Investigators noted a strong chemical odor consistent with PCP coming from the container.
Authorities also recovered a glass pipe from the vehicle’s driver-side area. Based on training and experience, deputies identified the items as drug paraphernalia used to ingest controlled substances.
Robertson was taken into custody and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center. He was later released on an unsecured personal bond of $2,000.
A trial is scheduled for May 6, 2026 in Calvert District Court.
A booking photo of the suspect was provided to TheBayNet.com by the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office upon request.
