Lifeguarding and water safety jobs require specific certifications to qualify. A lifeguard certification takes 25 to 27 hours to complete and is typically offered on a limited but ongoing basis by the Red Cross, which provides a comprehensive course on water safety, lifesaving skills, and CPR.
Seasonal jobs like lifeguarding or camp counseling are ideal for high school and college students who can only commit to a job while school is out. It provides them with opportunities to make money and gain experience in the workforce.
A summer job can help young people develop a wide range of marketable skills. Depending on what field someone wants to pursue, a CPR certification, coaching kids, or leading a class can sharpen their résumé in later years. Summer jobs also help young people narrow down their interests and skills.
