PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — Join #1 New York Times bestselling children’s author Kwame Alexander on March 9 for a special event exploring literacy, self-advocacy and the power of community. Here are all the details.
Alexander, an author and Emmy-winning producer, will join Mt. Harmony Elementary’s Dr. Melaney Sánchez on March 9 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in Calvert High School’s auditorium. The event is free to the public, and registration is requested. Doors will open at 6 p.m. Books will be available for sale and signing.
As we approach America’s 250th anniversary, this event honors our shared values of freedom, independence and the joy of learning. Attendees will get to listen to a fascinating conversation and celebrate the launch of his latest book, The Mighty Macy, and the TV show called America’s Next Great Author.
Anyone who is unable to attend in person can watch the event on Calvert Library’s YouTube channel.
Alexander is the author of 40 books, including An American Story, The Door of No Return, Becoming Muhammad Ali (co-authored with James Patterson), Rebound, which was shortlisted for the prestigious UK Carnegie Medal, and The Undefeated, the National Book Award nominee, Newbery Honor and Caldecott Medal-winning picture book illustrated by Kadir Nelson. His Emmy win comes from the 2023 Disney+ adaptation of his novel, The Crossover, which follows two brothers as they grow up on and off the basketball court.
Alexander’s latest novel, The Mighty Macy, was published on Feb. 3. The chapter book follows a young girl who finds her voice and learns the power of speaking up for her community.
