SOUTHERN MARYLAND — The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for much of the region, including Southern Maryland, the District of Columbia, and surrounding counties, in effect until 10 p.m. Friday evening.

Forecasters warn of potentially hazardous conditions as multiple rounds of storms are expected to sweep through the area throughout the afternoon and evening. Primary threats include damaging wind gusts reaching up to 60 mph and isolated occurrences of large hail.

The watch, officially labeled as Severe Thunderstorm Watch 263, covers 15 Maryland counties, including St. Mary’s, Calvert, Charles, Prince George’s, and Anne Arundel. Residents are urged to monitor local forecasts, secure outdoor items, and remain alert for potential warnings.
