Chesapeake Beach, MD— On August 28, Calvert County Sheriff’s Office Dfc. Fox was on Randle Avenueย inย Chesapeake Beach when a citizen pulled up next to the deputy’s vehicle.ย
The citizen advised he was traveling on Bayside Road in the area of the Naval Researchย Laboratory when he noticed a male who walked right in frontย of his vehicle,ย causing him to have to quicklyย slow down.ย
The citizen advised Fox that he felt the individualย in question was either drunk or impairedย by drugs. He said the man was shirtless.ย
Fox attempted to locate the individual and observed a male with no shirt on just south of the Naval Research Laboratory on Bayside Road. Fox observed the subject tin question, and identified asย Jeremy A. Smith, 30, of Monroe, MI.ย
Smith was, “stumblingย in the middle of the roadway near the double yellow line and flailing his arms at cars,” according to charging documents.ย
Traffic was stopped in both directions as numerous citizen were trying not to strike him. Smith then walked onto the northbound lane and stood in the middle of the roadway.ย
Fox was able to get Smith off the road, and immediatelyย detected a strong odor of an alcohol on his breath. Smith’s eyes were watery and his speechย was slurred.ย
Fox learned Smith was wanted through the State of Michigan,ย however, they will not extradite from Maryland. Smith sat on a guardrail and, “fell backwards into a ditch and took a long time to stand back up,” according to ย charging documents.
Smith did not have anywhere to go and did not haveย a cell phone. Smith was very intoxicated as he stated to Fox numerous times.
ย Smith was arrested and transported to the Calvert County Detention Center, where he was charged with disorderly conduct.ย
Smith has a scheduled court appearanceย on October 17, at the Calvert County District Courthouse. Smith faces ย a maximum jail sentenceย of two months and/or a maximumย fine of $500.ย
