LEONARDTOWN, Md. — During the early morning hours of Saturday, June 21, 2025, Deputy First Class Ryan McLean #400, of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office, was stopped by a Maryland State Police Trooper and cited for driving while impaired. McLean was not on duty at the time and was operating a personally owned vehicle. Following the citation, McLean was released to a sober driver.
In accordance with agency policy and Maryland state law, DFC McLean is suspended with pay.
An administrative investigation has been initiated by the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office of Professional Responsibilities into this incident.
Inquiries regarding the citation should be referred to the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack.

He gets an award for DUI enforcement and then gets busted himself. Different rules for law enforcement personnel, he received a citation and released to a sober driver, the average citizen would have be arrested and hauled off to jail. This incident definitely looks bad for both the sheriff department and state police to allow preferential treatment of one of their own which is a bunch of BS.
I’m sure he will be let off light. They take care of their own. With pay…. But hey it’s st Mary’s. The bar is very low
So much for the “award for dui enforcement” for being a top dui arresting officer just a few years ago.
Wow must be nice. I go to jail and won’t get paid if I get pulled over for drinking and driving. He gets paid to drink and drive. Isn’t that nice.
What makes you think he got paid for it?
It says suspended with pay are you illiterate
Same cop that got awards for giving everyone in at Mary’s county a dui ticket. It crazy how cops hunk the can rape , kill kids, and really don’t have any of the same laws civialians do. I didn’t know 16 week academy made you so god like make sure you all show up to court and watch him not just get a slap on wrist but completely let off
Congratulations on your outstanding DUI enforcement Deputy McLean! After all of his record breaking DUI arrests he should immediately be stripped of all his privileges both driving and as a deputy. Without pay!
Released to a sober driver? I seriously doubt he released any of the drivers he arrested for DUI. Talk about a double standard. I wonder if MADD knows about this with all his awards.
Wow, stopped for DUI but released to a sober driver instead of being arrested and suspended WITH pay. Rules for thee…
Let’s see if the state’s attorney will want to punish him the same way they do everyone else. Because the police are still paying him. They should not pay him for something under investigation if he was off duty and in his own personal vehicle.
You royally screwed the pooch dude.
