Chesapeake Beach, MD – On their social media page, the legendary soul group The Whispers promised their Washington, DC/Baltimore/Virginia fans โ€œa relaxing, soulful concert on the beachโ€ Friday night, June 3. The show venue was dockside at Chesapeake Beach Resort and Spa. The fans received just what they were promised. The Whispers delivered a high-energy performance on the band-shell stage. There was dancing in the sand and on the dock.

The resortโ€™s 2016 Rock the Dock season is just getting started and The Whispers drew one of the biggest crowds ever to the bayside event.

The Whispers were formed in California during the early 1960s. They enjoyed much success on the โ€œHot Dance Clubโ€ play charts during the 1980s. In 2008 they received the Rhythm and Blues Foundationโ€™s Pioneer Award.

Earlier this year one of the groupโ€™s founding members, Nicholas Caldwell, passed away. Two original membersโ€”twins Wallace (Scotty) and Walter Scott, continue to lead the group. Their summer tour includes the big cities of St. Louis, Cincinnati, Detroit, Denver and Philadelphia.

The soul duo Chyp Andi opened the show for The Whispers, performing a mix of Motown, soul and familiar pop tunes.

The Rock the Dock series continues through September. On Thursday night, June 9 โ€œSlippery When Wet,โ€ a Bon Jovi tribute band, will perform. Among the big-name acts booked for the summer are Eddie Money (July 15), Blood, Sweat and Tearsโ€”with Bo Bice (July 29) and Keith Sweat (Aug. 3).
