SOUTHERN MARYLAND — Southern Maryland residents woke up to a winter wonderland, with reports of up to 10 inches of snow in some areas—a stark contrast to recent years of little to no snowfall.
The snowstorm, which blanketed the region, prompted many to take full advantage of the day off by enjoying outdoor activities, assisting neighbors, and making the most of the frosty conditions.

Fun in the Snow
Many community members shared photos and stories of their snow day adventures. Families and friends built snowmen, slid down makeshift sled ramps on outdoor stairs, and even got creative by using the snow as a cooler for drinks.

Pets joined in the fun, too, with residents submitting heartwarming photos of their furry companions exploring the snow.

One family took snow day creativity to a new level by making homemade snow ice cream.

Neighbors Helping Neighbors
While many enjoyed the snow, others spent their day helping those in need. Some residents reported clearing roadways, driveways, and cul-de-sacs, ensuring their neighbors could safely navigate their neighborhoods.
“Neighbors helping neighbors in Golden Beach. He cleared everyone’s driveway and our cul-de-sac…,” one resident said, praising the community spirit the snowstorm brought out.

More Snow on the Way
With more snow expected this evening, residents are reminded to stay safe, stay warm, and lend a helping hand when possible. Whether it’s shoveling a neighbor’s driveway or checking in on elderly community members, small acts of kindness can go a long way during inclement weather.
For now, Southern Marylanders are savoring the rare winter experience, making this snow day one to remember.

Those totals seem low- in our part of Mechanicsville we have nearly 10” on the ground as of 8pm.
What a wonderful job of reporting on such a special day, photo journalism at its effective best! A big snow day isn’t just traffic snarls & closed stores. The smiles on those kids’ faces, rosy cheeks = memories forever.
