Lexington Park, MD –ย At about 1:11 a.m. on Feb. 7 a sleeping family member was woken up by the odor of smoke.

The family member went to investigate and found heavy smoke coming from the bedroom. ย He alerted the other family members and they were able to get out of the home without injury.

Investigation revealed that a space heater was the cause of the fire.

It took 27 fire fighters about five minutes to control the fire.

According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal The damage is estimated at $10,000 and the family is being assisted by the American Red Cross.
