St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office Welcomes Eight New Deputies

LEONARDTOWN, Md. – Join Sheriff Steve Hall and the members of the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office in welcoming eight new Deputies who were sworn in this morning.

During the ceremony, Sheriff Hall asked the Deputies: “What is the most crucial police radio code you’ve learned?” Their response to the question was “10-8”, which signifies that an officer is in service. Sheriff Hall emphasized to them, “Being ‘10-8’ means you are engaged and aware of your surroundings; you are prepared mentally, physically, and emotionally, and your equipment is in good repair. You are ready to serve the county. As of today, you should remain 10-8. This will get you home safely to your families and keep you always operating in a professional manner.”

The Deputies will graduate from the Southern Maryland Criminal Justice Academy in a ceremony later today and will report for duty immediately.
