LEXINGTON PARK, Md. — Residents will gather at Lexington Manor Passive Park on Sunday, Aug. 31, for a candlelight vigil honoring neighbors lost to substance misuse and supporting those who have survived overdose.

The St. Mary’s County Health Department, in partnership with Beacon of Hope, will host the 7–8:30 p.m. event as part of International Overdose Awareness Day. The gathering will feature moments of reflection, opportunities to share memories, and information about local prevention and recovery resources.

Organizers are inviting the public to submit photos of loved ones to be displayed during the event. Images can be uploaded at forms.gle/d23YR2iK4WPqBaqYA.

County health officials said the vigil aims to foster community healing while helping break the stigma surrounding addiction and recovery. Resource tables with prevention materials will be available.

The event is free and open to the public at 21675 South Coral Drive in Lexington Park.
