LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A new workshop hosted by St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks is offering teens a chance to build strength, sharpen focus, and gain confidence — all while breaking a sweat.
Scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 2 at the Wellness & Aquatics Center, the Inclusive Kickboxing Workshop welcomes students ages 13 to 18 for an afternoon of high-energy training and personal growth. The session introduces fundamental techniques like controlled strikes and footwork, while also helping participants improve coordination, balance, and overall fitness.
What makes the event stand out is its commitment to accessibility. Recreation staff say they’re creating a supportive space where teens with and without disabilities can train together, fostering mutual respect and shared accomplishment.
Beyond physical skills, the program emphasizes body awareness and mental focus — key benefits that organizers hope will carry over into everyday life. With a one-time registration fee of $10, the workshop is designed to be both affordable and impactful.
