Pomfret, MD–ย This week marked a very particular week in Charles County Public Schools (CCPS). The Computer Education Week is slated to run through Dec.11 covering a variety of topics in computer education.ย
One of the many highlights of the week was the “Hour of Code” which took place Dec.10, at 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Dr.James Craik Elementaryย School. During the event many different critical thinking aspects were covered, such as problem-solving, persistence and programming, to name a few.ย
“This program is very unique. CCPS is the only school system to have computer education fromย kindergartenย through 12th grade in the nation. This program is great to help teach our students to think critically and logically,” said CCPS Superintendent of Schools Dr.Kimberly Hill.ย
Visitorsย that attended the event were welcomed to take a tour demonstratingย and summarizing eventsย that take place all week in computational thinking across the school.ย
Principalย Debra Calvert was eager to share some of the progress that CCPS is making in computer technology. “Dr.Hill sets the goals from CCPS, and we do whatever we can to achieve these goals, this program does such a remarkable job of teaching the students at an early age about computer technology,”ย
There are two more days of computer education week still to occur. These events are at Gale-Bailey Elementary School from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. The other event is to be held at St.Charles High School from 9 to10 a.m. Students will demonstrateย things they have done and help visitors experience a variety of coding activities.ย
