SOLOMONS, MD โ€”ย Annmarie Sculpture Garden & Arts Center in Solomons, Maryland, announces the 2015 Summer Public Art Project, created by Kevin Sudeith entitled Modern Petroglyphs. The public art project will run through August 30, 2015. Visitors of all ages are invited to join in the Summer Public Art Project from 10am-4pm daily. Participation is included with price of site admission.

This year our Artist-In-Residence will be making stone carvings featuring images drawn from the local community, combined with secondary images of aerospace themes. Kevin will then make prints from the carvings while encouraging visitors to also make their own prints. The three carved rocks will remain at the Sculpture Garden when completed.

The prints are an important documentation of the carvings and will serve as a tool to convey the carvings to remote audiences. โ€œThe prints are an integral part of the conceptual form of my work,โ€ states Sudeith. โ€œThe spatial relationship between the stone and a sheet of paper is part of the form of the piece. Though the prints are made from archival materials, compared to the rock, they are ephemeral. Similarly my own physical presence is ephemeral compared to the life of the carved rock.”

Once the printmaking has been competed, Kevin will paint and varnish the works. The colors are lightfast and archival as possible, but compared to the rock, they are ephemeral or lasting only a short time.
