Two fires that occurred in Waldorf Sunday, June 29 remain under investigation, state officials reported.

According to Dfm. John Nelson of the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office, a house fire on Alyssa Lane was reported shortly after 9 a.m.ย  Damage to the two-story, wood-frame home is estimated at $100,000. No injuries were reported.

โ€œThe cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time,โ€ Nelson reported. โ€œThe family was displaced from the home and is being assisted by other family members and friends.โ€

Thirty-five volunteer firefighters from Waldorf, La Plata, Accokeek, Potomac Heights, Brandywine and Baden were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze, which originated in the homeโ€™s basement. The firefighters brought the flames under control in 10 minutes. A resident of the house had discovered the fire.

Nelson identified the homeowner as Roy Bowman.

At approximately 7:19 p.m. a fence was reportedly set ablaze on Red Lion Place. Two Waldorf firefighters responded and extinguished the fire, which was discovered by a passing motorist.

ย

โ€œThe fire was incendiary from suspect(s) igniting the fence on fire with an open flame in three locations,โ€ Nelson stated. โ€œThe fire caused damage to the fence and extended to the surrounding brush.โ€

The estimated damage to the fence was $150.

Anyone who might have information on the incident is asked to contact the Maryland State Fire Marshalโ€™s Southern Region Office at 443-550-6833.
