
Lexington Park, MD— On August 23, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Muschette was in the area of Great Mills Road and Westbury Boulevard when a call was broadcast by Emergencyย Communication Center in reference to an animal crueltyย complaint.ย
The Emergencyย Communication Center advised a witness observedย a male in a white shirt, “kick a small brown dog,” according to charging documents.ย
Moments later Muschette observed the defendant, later identified as Devon C. Johnson, 31, of Lexington Park, in the area walking a small brown dog on a leash. Johnson matched the description of the alleged perpetrator as just aired by the communication center.ย
Beforeย Muschette made contact with Johnson, the suspect was seen kicking the small dog from approximately 25 yards away.ย Muschette made contact with Johnson he appeared aggravated with the dog and he did admit to kicking the dog to discipline it from running away from him.ย
The witness contacted Deputy Siciliano from the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and advised that she observed the original incident. She also advised she observed, “Johnson pick the dog up off the ground by its leash and kick it with his foot,” according to charging documents.ย
Johnson has been charged with animal cruelty. At this time Johnson does not have a scheduled court appearance. Johnson faces a maximum jail sentenceย of three months and/or a maximum fine of $1,000.ย
