CALIFORNIA, Md. — Five women are facing second-degree assault charges after what deputies described as a late-night brawl at the California Wawa convenience store that began in a bathroom and escalated into a multi-person fight in the store aisles.
The incident occurred on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at about 1:35 a.m. at the Wawa located on Three Notch Road. According to the statement of probable cause, the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a fight. A witness told deputies that her sister, the victim, was followed into the bathroom by two women, and a fight broke out.
After the initial altercation was broken up, the victim went to retrieve her food order. Deputies said the two women allegedly re-entered the store to “instigate another fight,” following the victim back into the bathroom and then into the store aisles. In the aisles, one of the women allegedly grabbed the victim’s hair and hit her multiple times. Charging documents state that at that point, three other women entered the store and joined in, with all of them allegedly striking the victim.
Deputies wrote that the entire incident was captured on store security cameras, which they said appeared to corroborate the victim’s and witness’s accounts. One of the suspects, Emoni Tishon Brantley, returned to the scene and initially claimed she was only trying to break up the fight. However, charging documents state the footage showed her “kicking and punching [the victim] multiple times.”
The following five women were charged via criminal summons with second-degree assault: Emoni Tishon Brantley, 27, of Lexington Park; Kentasia Lynique Wills, 20, of Lexington Park; Jnaiya Denise Butler, 22, of Lexington Park; Shaniya Curshawn Mason, 24, of Lexington Park; and Nijah Renai Long, 23, of Waldorf. The misdemeanor charge carries a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in prison. All five have preliminary hearings scheduled in September.
