BALTIMOREโWASHINGTON โ The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch effective through 10 PM EDT Sunday, June 8, 2025, covering portions of Maryland, Virginia, Washington D.C., and West Virginia.
The affected area includes heavily populated zones such as Waldorf, Fredericksburg, Richmond, and Washington, with more than 10 million residents potentially impacted.
According to the NWS alert, threats include:
- A couple of tornadoes
- Isolated hail up to ping-pong ball size
- Scattered wind gusts reaching up to 65 MPH
The NWS estimates exposure impacts could include 2,347 schools and 103 hospitals.
Residents are urged to remain weather-aware, monitor trusted weather sources for updates, and prepare to seek shelter immediately if warnings are issued. Tornado watches indicate conditions are favorable for tornadoes and severe storms but are not yet confirmed.
