At 3:40 p.m May 21, police and Hollywood Volunteer Firefighters responded to the intersection of Rt. 235 and Rt.4 for a vehicle crash.
A white SUV-type vehicle traveling north on Three Notch Road apparently struck a white van headed east on Patuxent Beach Road at the intersection.
At the time the power was out at the intersection traffic light and the Wawa gas station nearby. St. Maryโs Sheriffโs Deputy Cusic confirmed that the power outage was a contributing circumstance in the crash, but could offer no further details when contacted by The Bay Net.
Power was also out at another intersection further north on Rt. 235.
Hollywood Volunteer Fire Captain Bryan Riley reports that volunteers had to remove the doors of the van to remove a patient trapped inside, which took about 10 minutes. It is not clear if anyone was transported to the hospital with injuries.
A SMECO spokesman said the outage was caused by a cable failure in a line behind Wildewood shopping center. He said 262 customers in the Hollywood and California area, and two traffic lights, were without power for about an hour starting at 3:30 p.m.
Check back with The Bay Net as more details become available.
