CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — A Calvert County man already wanted on an active warrant is now facing four additional misdemeanor charges after deputies found him carrying drug paraphernalia and a concealed spiked weapon during a traffic stop in a Fastop parking lot.
At approximately 7:57 p.m. on May 7, 2025, a Calvert County Sheriff’s Deputy patrolling the Chesapeake Beach area observed a silver Chevrolet Suburban making a turn from Mears Avenue onto Bayside Road without using a turn signal. The vehicle was pulled over moments later in the parking lot of the Chesapeake Beach Fastop located on Bayside Road.
While addressing the traffic infraction, the deputy made contact with the driver and passenger. The passenger — a white male in a black sweatshirt with the hood drawn tightly over his head — avoided eye contact and initially identified himself as “Joseph Anastasi.” But according to the deputy, who recognized the passenger from prior law enforcement encounters, the man was actually 30-year-old Angalo Cole Anastasi of Chesapeake Beach.
A check confirmed that Anastasi had an open warrant for his arrest through the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office stemming from an earlier case. He was immediately detained at the scene.
During a search incident to arrest, officers located a pair of brass knuckles in Anastasi’s sweatshirt. The weapon, described as a two-finger configuration painted in purple, blue and gold, featured triangular spikes affixed to each finger ring. Anastasi also had a black fanny pack slung under his jacket. Inside, deputies recovered a hypodermic needle and a burnt silver bottle cap with suspected heroin residue. According to police, the type of bottle cap found is a known tool for preparing heroin for injection. Heroin is classified under Maryland law as a Schedule I controlled dangerous substance.
The recovered items were submitted to the sheriff’s property unit and the suspected narcotics were sent for forensic testing.
He was charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, which under Maryland law carries a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a $5,000 fine, along with three additional misdemeanors: possessing drug paraphernalia, carrying a concealed weapon and attempting to avoid prosecution by providing a false identity.
Following his initial appearance, Angalo Cole Anastasi was released on a $1,500 unsecured personal bond. He is scheduled to appear for trial on June 18, 2025, at Calvert District Court.
