UPDATE Feb. 9

At approximately 9:15 p.m. on Feb. 8, the Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Team deployed a chemical agent into the residence. The occupant exited through a window and was taken into custody without injury to himself or officers.

The occupant was transported to Calvert Memorial Hospital for psychological evaluation.

Sheriff Mike Evans states that he is thankful for the training and the equipment that the Sheriffโ€™s Office has received over the past few years. โ€œThis training and equipment were instrumental in saving the life of this young man and for the safety of our Deputiesโ€. Sheriff Evans is always attempting to acquire the appropriate funding through grants, State and county funding for the protection that our County requires. โ€œWe are all thankful that no one was injured and that we had a successful resolution to this situationโ€.ย ย 


Armed Man Barricaded Inside Solomon’s Home

On February 8, 2011 at approximately 1:10ย p.m., Deputies from the Calvert County Sheriffโ€™s Office Special Operations Team attempted to serve an emergency petition at 13333 Shipwrightโ€™s Circle, located in Solomons.

This emergency petition was issued due to psychological issues that the occupant suffers from. The occupant 25 years of age is refusing to exit the residence. Deputies are unable to establish contact at this time. Family members have advised officers that the occupant has numerous knives, a machete, several shotguns and a semi-automatic pistol in his possession.

Approximately 20 Deputies from the Special Operations Team, Patrol Bureau, Hostage Negations Team and Criminal Investigative Bureau are on the scene.ย
