At 11:32 a.m. July 26, emergency volunteers from Hollywood and Lexington Park responded to a T-bone crash at the intersection of Mervell Dean Road and Clarks Landing Road in Hollywood.
Arriving crews discovered the two van occupants were trapped in the vehicle, and went to work removing the complete roof and side door.
One patient was flown by Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper 7 to a Prince Georges Trauma Center due to the injuries sustained in the accident. The other patient was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital by ambulance.
Rita Gibson Schuhart, 73, of Clinton, died the next morning in Prince Georges Hospital.
The driver, 74-year-old Daniel Webster Schuhart, reportedly failed to yield the right of way at the intersection while driving on Rt. 235 and pulled in front of a school bus traveling through the intersection. Daniel Schuhart was taken to St. Maryโs Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The seven people on the bus, including the driver, Barbara Frye, of Dameron, and five children, were not injured in the crash.
